I-64 Seismic Retrofit

In an effort to make an elevated section of I-64 in downtown St. Louis remain standing during an earthquake, MoDOT awarded the second to last phase of this project to KCI, which was the second for KCI. This package included seismic upgrades on the section of highway from 7th to 11th Streets, and painting of all structural steel from 7th to 14th Street. This congested area of downtown St. Louis required us to coordinate working in the parking lot of the General Services Administration, alongside and above Metrolink light rail tracks, above City streets, and next to Busch Stadium. Constant communication with these factions, as well as dealing with traffic on the highway and streets below, made this project an example of coordination. The project scope included 1.3 million pounds of structural steel, 130,000 pounds of steel column collars, and 144 drilled piers ranging in depths from 30 to 75 feet.
