Fabric Tank Replacement

Two 500,000 gallon fabric tanks (fabric reinforced rubber bladders contained within earthen berms) had far exceeded their 20-year life expectancy, and that coupled with City growth necessitated additional water capacity. KCI and tank subcontractor Preload built the 95′ diameter, 40′ tall tank on a 22″ thick concrete base slab supported on 176 sixty-foot long H-piles driven to bedrock. Tank wall panels were precast on site, with integral steel diaphragms to provide water tightness. A wooden shoring and forming system was built to place the cast-in-place domed roof, and then the tank was wound with steel wire and coated with shotcrete and a maintenance free coating.
