KCI Construction Strengthens Partnership with Covenant House, Making a Lasting Impact

KCI Construction continues to deepen its relationship with Covenant House Missouri, an organization dedicated to supporting youth experiencing homelessness in the St. Louis area. Covenant House offers shelter, basic needs, and transformative programs that help young people build independent and sustainable lives.

KCI first partnered with Covenant House in 2024, participating in service events, a Trade Career Panel, and fulfilling holiday wish lists for several youth. In 2025, the collaboration has grown even stronger, leading to a direct impact on both the Covenant House community and one young man’s future career.

In March, 30 KCI employees volunteered at Covenant House, rolling up their sleeves to help clean, organize, and enhance the space. The team tackled projects such as reorganizing storage areas, deep cleaning stairwells, moving furniture, and even building sports equipment and game tables. Their efforts improved the physical space, but one KCI team member was also making a personal impact.

At a Trades Career Panel in November 2024, KCI President Tom Huster and Field Operations Manager Tony Roderman spoke to a group of young people about career opportunities in the trades, covering potential job paths, pay scales, and industry contacts. One attendee, 24-year-old Isaiah T., showed interest in the discussion. When Tony returned days later with holiday gift donations, he took the opportunity to connect with Isaiah about his future.

With Tony’s guidance and KCI’s endorsement, Isaiah enrolled in MOKAN, a 10-week pre-apprenticeship program. He successfully completed the program and graduated on March 14, 2025.

Following MOKAN, Tony helped Isaiah secure a connection with Local 92, ultimately leading to a new opportunity—an Apprenticeship at Kiewit, starting on April 7. With this role, Isaiah will continue his education in June, positioning himself for future growth in the construction industry.

Reflecting on his journey, Isaiah shared, MOKAN was a learning experience and prepared me for where I am now. He expressed gratitude for the support and connections he received from KCI.

Covenant House staff voiced their appreciation for KCI’s ongoing support.

Thanks to KCI the building looks better, the youth have more knowledge of the trades, and we feel inspired by Isaiah’s path.”
