Our History

View 100-year Video History of KCI

1922

KCI Construction Company is founded as Kloster Company by Charles Kloster first focusing on schools, churches, and single family homes then expanding to add concrete work. 

1955

Charles Kloster’s two sons, Barney and George, join the company and expand capabilities to include hospital work under the new name Kloster Construction.

1982

Kloster Construction expands services to include design/build—the first of which were TJ Hall in Rolla and the 7-story St. Louis Centre Parking Garage.

1984

Kloster Construction expands to include Karl Kloster, George Kloster Jr., Kevin Kloster, Richard Grebel, and Doug Jones while also adding services to include sewer and heavy concrete, deep foundation, and highway and bridge work in addition to the original carpentry and concrete work. 

The company also grows beyond St. Louis County, to include work in eastern Missouri

1995

Company changes name to KCI Construction when the last of the Kloster family leaves the ownership group. 

2016

KCI adds earthwork and utility services to their self perform capabilities.

2022

KCI opens an office in Springfield, MO expanding our services throughout the state. 

2024

KCI becomes an employee-owned company giving our employees a sense of shared success in our projects and relationships.

KCI relocates St. Louis office staff to 1260 Andes Boulevard, while maintaining warehouse & equipment maintenance in Green Park Commerce Center.
