This project involved the replacement of the Route 47 bridge over Highway 61 with a new two-span precast concrete Nu-girder bridge featuring a full concrete deck. The improvements also included construction of diverging diamond crossover intersections on both sides of the bridge to improve traffic flow and safety.
Work was completed in four phases and included widening of Route 47 and Ramps 1 through 4, roadway grading, paving, milling and overlay, and installation of new drainage systems. Additional improvements included construction of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall, a new commercial driveway to the gas station east of the bridge, and clearing and grading east of the bridge to reconstruct Frenchman Bluff Road and tie into the existing US 61 East outer road.
The project also included widening of adjacent roadways and installation of multiple 45-foot light poles throughout the corridor to enhance visibility and safety.
