Troy Interchange Ribbon Cutting Marks Major Infrastructure Milestone

On August 26, 2025, state and local leaders gathered in Troy, Missouri, to cut the ribbon on the newly completed Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at U.S. Route 61 and Missouri Route 47—a major project designed and built to improve safety, traffic flow, and community connectivity.

KCI Construction served as the contractor for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), working alongside design partner HRGreen to deliver the transformative project. The work included a new, wider bridge, significant roadway improvements, and the addition of an ADA-compliant pedestrian path to improve access for all travelers.

The innovative DDI design temporarily shifts traffic to the left side of the road to eliminate problematic left turns, reducing congestion and increasing capacity at one of Troy’s busiest intersections, which sees an average of 25,000 vehicles each day.

Construction began in June 2024 and spanned 14 months, with crews working year-round through tough weather conditions and alongside live traffic. The project required over 60,000 work hours—including 9,000 by minority workers and 1,800 by women—without a single major accident or traffic incident. Work highlights included demolishing the old bridge over a single weekend and setting new girders overnight to minimize impacts on the traveling public.

“We would like to thank MoDOT and the City of Troy for the opportunity to build this new and improved interchange, and KCI is happy to play a small part in the great things happening in this area,” said KCI Construction President Tom Huster.

In addition to creating safer and more efficient travel, the project also had a strong local impact, employing regional workers and subcontractors throughout construction.

The new Troy Interchange is now open to the public and is expected to serve the growing community and regional commuters for decades to come.
